Weekly Thought: 'Anything You Can Do...'

It’s all go for low blows.

As I write this a new Tory Prime Minister knuckles down to leading the first Conservative government in over a decade, Gordon Brown has finally decided to resign and the Lib Dems have skyrocketed into the public eye as genuine contenders for Cameron’s throne despite being everyone’s favourite punch-bags mere weeks before.
All in all, we’ve been having a busy few weeks.

However, I’m afraid to say that the whole lot of it has rather put me off politics; say what you like but this has been a thoroughly nasty, bitter and stressful election where claws were drawn, hair was pulled and little old ladies were thoroughly picked on, only to be topped off by an impressive layer of intrusive, ill-mannered media coverage that was next to impossible to escape wherever you happened to be at the time. I mean, so much for democracy - at times it felt more like a spat between angsty school children, and in retrospect it’s hardly surprising the former PM decided to step down. Seriously, a few more years of that and he wouldn’t just be grey: his hair would have fallen out entirely.

Naturally, this reminds me rather forcibly of the ‘Big Three’ currently dominating gaming; in our nice new concept store - complete with lavish screens and twinkling lights - standing between the different console sections is like being trapped in the middle of that very same, heated argument. You know the sort of thing: how ‘mine is bigger than yours?’ It certainly doesn’t help with the exclusivity hockey that they seem to be playing right now, not to mention the unbelievably sour grudge match they’re currently fighting concerning the upcoming motion controls.

Sadly, things can only seem to get worse; with E3 2010 rapidly approaching it’s going to be like election week all over again before we know it. Seven days of big announcements, bigger egos and the biggest arguments? Give it a rest guys, so we can get some piece and quiet!
